Who Let Dem Christians in da Club! I love this song by Canton Jones and it's certainly an issue for young Christians trying to do the right thing! Our young Christian warriors like to party, dance and have fun too. They are very social just like everybody else, but they are held to a higher standard, expected to "be good" at all times. Not impossible, but not probable if we (the seasoned veterans on this journey) don't give them an alternative to the streets.
I remember when I was a teenager (hear those harps?) I loved to dance, I was saved,an honor student, a musician, speaker, writer- all of that but I wanted to club like I was grown! My friends (who were honor students too) and I went clubbing on the regular because we loved to dance together and truth be told in those days they didn't check ID like they do today. There was no shooting, stabbing or fighting if you stepped on someone's foot or accidentally bumped into them while your were getting your dance on, it wasn't that serious. We'd sometimes shut the place down, go to IHOP and make it home safely! I made it through those high school and college years unscathed but it got old real fast because things started to change- fighting, shootings, drugs, too much alcohol, guys trying to touch you in places they shouldn't - it was crazy!
Today, many churches/ministries are holding friday night live events for their youth, but from the ones I've gone to, it is very limited - no dancing, no food, not the party atmosphere we all like to enjoy, because first of all it's usually in a church- who's gonna cupid shuffle in there? Pastor ain't having that! Some of the seasoned saints don't agree with these kinds of events but guess what? We got to meet the youngs folks where they are, do we really expect them to not be social? We all partied and tell the truth- It wasn't for Jesus! LOL! I still love to dance as most of you do and I love a good party!
I found an experience that brings the party to the people- It's called Happy Hour Live- Where the Night Life Thrives with the Family Life Fam! Club environment, food, dancing, live music and one of the best Christian DJ's ever! Happens every 4th friday of the month, featuring various artists. Now tonight we feature God's Gurls, Family Life Praise Singers, Mr. Sanctifunky- Daniel Osbie, open mic, cash prizes and more. I'm hosting so you know it's all ages! join me @ 9pm-until at The Wyndham on Old Natl Hwy! See you for Happy Hour! Let's kick off the holiday weekend just right!
