The U.S. Postal Service will stop delivering mail on Saturdays but continue to deliver packages six days a week under a plan aimed at saving about $2 billion, the financially struggling agency says.

It will now be up to the Boy Scouts' national council to decide whether to lift the Scouts' ban on gay members and leaders. The organization's National Executive Board today decided to put off any action, and let the decision come from the 1,400 council members who will meet in Texas in May.

The U. S. Postal Service is ending Saturday mail delivery. The cutback to five days a week will begin in August, and save an estimated $2 billion a year. Package delivery would still continue on Saturdays, and mail would still be delivered to post office boxes. The head of the letter carriers union says it's a "disastrous idea."

A Douglas County teen is expected to plead guilty, but mentally ill, today to the 2011 stabbing death of his great-grandmother. Sixteen-year-old Gevin Prince allegedly used a knife and samurai sword, killing 77-year-old Mary Joan Gibbs, after he was told he couldn't use the computer or play video games.

A Villa Rica mom in trouble for leaving four young kids alone while she went to the pawn shop still hasn't come home because she's afraid now she'll go to jail. A neighbor called the cops last week when she noticed four children, ages 2 to 8, playing outside Tiffany Murphy's house with no sign of adults anywhere. Two of the children are hers, and two of them she was babysitting. When police contacted the 24-year-old Murphy, she asked whether she was going to be in trouble with the law and they told her they weren't sure but she needed to return before the children were put into DFCS custody. But she refused--and now there's an arrest warrant out for her on charges of reckless conduct and cruelty to children. Murphy told Channel 2 Action News she wants to make sure she has a lawyer before talking to police.

He'd promised to nominate a diverse group to his second-term Cabinet, and not just the white males who've been chosen so far -- and now, President Barack Obama is choosing a woman to serve as Interior secretary. An official says Obama's choice is Sally Jewell, who is the president and CEO at REI, a company that sells clothing and gear for outdoor adventures. Her confirmation would put a prominent member of the business community in the Cabinet.

Tri-Cities High School in East Point is tightening after-school security after a 16-year-old former student brought an unloaded gun to the gym last Friday. It's not clear why the boy brought the weapon. From now on, the school will require anyone who stays for after-school activities to remain in the building.

A controversial bill to arm school administrators and teachers is going to get a lot more scrutiny in the state legislature before it comes up for a vote. Opponents worry about liability--and about the wisdom of putting educators on the front lines. Supporters say it provides another layer of defense.

Atlanta City Councilman Lamar Willis faces ethics charges, lodged by the State Bar of Georgia. After winning a personal injury lawsuit on behalf of a child, Willis is accused of depositing $30,000 intended for the client into his own bank account instead of a standard attorney trust fund. Willis admits he did not disburse the money promptly, but says it was because he was distracted by his own divorce proceedings. He has not been charged with a crime and insists there was no fraudulent intent.

Ultra-conservative Athens Congressman Paul Broun holds a news conference today to announce he's running for the U. S. Senate seat now held by the retiring Saxby Chambliss. Broun made headlines last fall when he told a group that "evolution, embryology, and the Big Bang Theory--all of that is lies straight from the pit of Hell."

The votes are in--and the iron is out. After Facebook chatter sparked a contest to change the tokens in the Monopoly game, people in 120 countries voted to get rid of the iron and replace it with a cat token. Hasbro announced the changes hours after fans voted on Facebook.
