Vice President Joe Biden and vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan debated in Kentucky last night over Medicare, foreign policy, taxes and the economy. Both Democrats and Republicans seem to be very happy this morning with their candidate's performance. Although some feel Biden was bit overbearing with numerous interruptions, some feel Ryan was lost on several of the issues, especially when it came to Afghanistan. This was the only vice-presidential debate. President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney mix it up again on October 16th.
The CDC is reporting two more people have died from fungal meningitis linked to steroid injections. Officials at the Centers for Disease Control raised the death toll to 14 this week. A total of 170 people have been stricken with the rare form of the disease in eleven states since the outbreak began last month. The latest deaths happened in Florida and Indiana.

The men accused in a violent crime spree in Atlanta have been found guilty. A Fulton County jury returned verdicts Thursday against 19-year-old Tamario Wise, 18-year-old Robert Veal and 21-year-old Fernandez Whatley. Authorities say the crime spree lasted for a month and included the rape of a woman in Grant park and the murder of Charles Boyer on November 22nd. The men referred to as the "Jack Boys" are charged with a variety of crimes including murder, rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault.
The Archdiocese of Atlanta is suing over the birth control mandate contained in the Affordable Care ACt. It calls for women to get free birth control pills in their health insurance plans. Religious institutions are exempt from the requirement--but the archdiocese still thinks the government is interfering with its freedom of religion.
More Americans decide not to until Black Friday to start their holiday shopping. A new poll reports 40% of people will start their shopping before November. Only 12% actually wait until the day after Thanksgiving. With budgets a little tighter, more people are also choosing to spread out the impact of their holiday shopping.
An Atlanta attorney is back home today after been released from the Shepherd Center. Adina Parson was sent home this week after being at the rehabilitation center for several months following being shot on April 20th outside of her home by her husband. Michael Parson is currently being held at the Fulton County jail without bond. Authorities say Parson tried to kill his wife so he could marry another woman. Friends of Adina say the 40-year attorney is currently being treated on an outpatient basis.
A traveling construction crew that goes around the country building and repairing churches has set its sights on a church in Gwinnett County. Tom LaSalle and Matt Guerra from the Oklahoma-based Cornerstone Baptist Builders donate their labor and time to help churches in need. Ground was broken this week on the Snellville campus of the Forrest Hills at Mountain View church. The 5,400-square-foot structure will cater to the church's growing Sunday school needs, and provide more office space.
Playing hooky from work is still a popular way to use sick days. An annual survey reports 30% of workers admitted to calling in sick over the past year, even though they weren't actually sick. Some of the more interesting excuses this year include a woman whose dog was having a nervous breakdown and another who said their toe was stuck in a faucet.
First-time claims for unemployment benefits are down sharply. This week's figures from the Labor Department show that 339,000 Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week. That's down 30,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 369,000. The steepest decreases were in Mississippi, Michigan, Florida, Ohio, and Oregon.
Astronomers say they've found a planet twice the size of Earth that's mostly made of diamond. The surface of the rocky planet is believed to be covered in diamond and graphite. One-third of the planet's mass could be diamond. It's only about 40 light years away and it orbits a star that can be seen with the naked eye in the constellation Cancer.
Kellogg has decided to recall millions of boxes of its Mini-Wheats cereal over concerns about potential contamination from pieces of metal mesh. Officials for the Michigan-based food giant say two-point-eight-million packages of Frosted Mini-Wheats Bite Size Original and Mini-Wheats Unfrosted Bite Size cereal are being pulled from store shelves. No injuries have been reported.
Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Michael Vick is a new dog owner. Vick, who had been in prison for owning and operating a dog fighting ring says he recently got a dog for his family. Vick says he understands the "strong emotions" some will have to the news, but wants his children to develop a healthy relationship with animals.
