Former Penn State University assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, center, leaves the Centre County Courthouse after being sentenced in Bellefonte, Pa., Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012. Sandusky was sentenced Tuesday to at least 30 years in prison, effectively a life sentence, in the child sexual abuse scandal that brought shame to Penn State and led to coach Joe Paterno's downfall.

Jerry Sandusky has been sentenced to 30-60 years in prison. The former Penn State assistant football coach listened to testimony from three of his molestation victims before the judge, who called Sandusky "dangerous," sentenced him on 45 counts of sex abuse. He was convicted in June of molesting 10 boys over a 15-year period. A defiant Sandusky gave a rambling, 15-minute statement at today's sentencing hearing, denying the allegations and talking about the pain of being away from his family.

One man who testified today said he was 13 when Sandusky first molested him. "I am troubled with flashbacks of his naked body, something that will never be erased from my memory," he said. "Jerry has harmed children, of which I am one of them." Under Pennsylvania law, Sandusky will not be eligible for parole before his minimum term is up. In a recorded statement from jail, the ex-coach said he knows he is innocent--and questioned the motives of the accusers.

Today is your last day to register to vote in November's presidential election in Georgia, and several other states. Early voting starts October 15 in Georgia.

Mitt Romney has turned around his campaign after one good debate performance. Exactly one month before Election Day, and President Barack Obama and Romney are in a tight race. Both Democrats and Republicans say internal campaign surveys following last week's debate show the GOP challenger cut into the lead the president had built up in many key battleground states, but that Mr. Obama still has an advantage in most of them. A Pew Research Center poll conducted after the debate says Romney pulled ahead of President Obama, 49 to 45 percent, nationally.

In KISS news about your health: men, add a tomato to that omelet. In the journal Neurology, Finnish researchers followed about 1,000 men and tested their blood for lycopene, which is an antioxidant found in tomatoes and tomato-based products. People with the highest amounts of lycopene in their blood were 55% less likely to have a stroke. Lycopene is also prominently found in watermelon, pink grapefruit, guavas, and red peppers.

Twin brothers from Florida are jailed in Barrow County this morning, charged with concealing a death. Police found a missing man's body buried in concrete in their father's back yard. An autopsy is pending.

More than half of DeKalb County parents surveyed said they didn't want it--but they're getting it anyway. The DeKalb School Board votes 6-2 to start a balanced calendar next fall, which starts a week earlier and ends a week later. More breaks will be sprinkled throughout the year. The superintendent and teachers say it helps kids retain more knowledge when they have a shorter summer break.

An Atlanta attorney sues the state's two largest school systems, saying they're not complying with a court order not to use public resources--including school websites--to oppose the charter schools amendment. In particular, Glen Delk wants Gwinnett and Fulton County Schools to modify their FAQs page, which he says are thinly-disguised anti-amendment ads.

Coke, Pepsi, and Dr. Pepper will introduce new vending machines that give you a calorie count up front. The new soda machines debut first in Chicago next year, then roll out nationwide from there. The calories will be on the buttons you push to select your soda. The American Beverage Association plans to add more low-calorie and zero-calorie options to machines, too.
