Falcons Avenge Loss; Memorial for Lawrenceville Coed; Teen's Body Returns to Atlanta

By Veronica Waters

The Atlanta Falcons avenge their loss at the Superdome, beating the New Orleans Saints 23-13 at the Georgia Dome Thursday night and improving to 11-1. Atlanta Police beefed up security at Hartsfield-Jackson to make sure no one said bye-bye to the Saints the way someone greeted them overnight Wednesday--by egging one of their buses. The airport GM says one employee was responsible, and will be disciplined.

Even before the Falcons hit the showers, 400 workers began the overnight process of transforming the Dome from an NFL venue to the SEC Championship one. The events leading up to Saturday's Georgia/Alabama game began with a 9:00 event on the field Friday morning.

A teenager shot to death in Florida during an argument over loud music will be remembered in Cobb County Friday night. Jordan Davis left Jacksonville for Atlanta aboard a Delta jet, to a water cannon salute by airport fire trucks, which streamed an arch for the plane to taxi under before takeoff.

An-ex janitor at a DeKalb County private school is arraigned in federal court for allegedly installing cameras in the girls’ and boys’ bathrooms. Josh Ensley, 51, is accused of videotaping six-to-ten-year-olds using the restrooms at Paideia. Court documents state that "Josh Ensley said he would hide the camera in a hollowed air freshener and place it by the boys’ urinal and on a broom handle in the girls’ handicapped bathroom stall.” The discovery was made in October, when federal agents traced dozens of kiddie porn DVD overseas purchases to Ensley's house in Tucker.

Lots of family and friends turned out Thursday night for a Lawrenceville memorial for 17-year-old Jasmine Benjamin, the Valdosta State freshman found dead in her dorm's study room November 18. Police classify her death a homicide. Benjamin's parents learned of her death following a posting on Facebook. They recently hired a private investigator and a lawyer because they have been frustrated with the pace of the case.

DeKalb County parents are learning they'll have to foot the bill for most of their kids' Advanced Placement exams next spring. The district sent them letters explaining that the state reduced the funding for the challenging AP classes which offer college credit.

There's a debate on Capitol Hill about the fate of the dollar bill. There's talk of eventually replacing it with dollar coins in an effort to save money, even though American consumers haven't shown much appetite for the $1 coin. Supporters say the switch, and using cheaper metals in coins, could save taxpayers some $4.4 billion over the next 30 years.

Hostess going out of business means no hot dogs served in Gwinnett County school lunchrooms today. Gwinnett's 128 schools got two=ice- weekly Hostess deliveries of bread loaves and hamburger and hot dog buns. Now, they're scrambling for frozen and pantry items, and schools are swapping bread supplies out of what they have left.

New York's finest goes above and beyond--and it goes viral. We're used to seeing social media video of police doing something or other--this time, it was truly touching. Twenty-five-year-old Larry DePrimo returned to the side of homeless man who'd been asking for money on a cold November night--and gave him a pair of all-weather boots and thermal socks he bought for him at a nearby Skechers store. An Arizona tourist happened to catch it on her cell phone--e-mailed it to the NYPD and he's now an Internet sensation.

Instead of eight tiny reindeer and a little red sleigh, this Santa was accompanied by uniformed cops and sirens. A wealthy Missouri man posing as "Secret Santa" has handed out $100 bills to people who lost everything to Superstorm Sandy. It's a holiday tradition for him, and he's planning to give out $100,000 this year.

President Obama hosts Mitt Romney for a lunch which a White House spokesman says was cordial. Jay Carney says the two met privately for 90 minutes and had a lunch of white turkey chili and southwestern grilled chicken salad. The White House says they spoke about American leadership in the world and pledged to keep in touch. Romney's arrival was briefly blocked by a man who rushed his SUV at the security entrance. He was detained by the Secret Service.
