Stacey English Death Confirmed; President Obama's State of the Union, 2012

By Veronica Waters

The Fulton County medical examiner confirms a body found wedged under a tree off St. John's Avenue Monday afternoon is that of 36-year-old Stacey English. The cause of death remains unknown and the M. E. says more tests will be needed. The coroner used dental records to make a positive identification on the remains, which were in an advanced state of decomposition.

"We didn't find any signs of trauma or anything that would specifically lead to a cause of death," says Paul Desamours, with the medical examiner's office. "That investigation is ongoing, so we're doing toxicology." Desamours says those results could take at least six weeks.

English disappeared the night after Christmas, and friends said she had been quoting Scripture, talking about the world's end, and asking a visiting friend if he was Satan. English had one suicide attempt three years ago; her car was found, still running, near the Lakewood fairgrounds.

President Barack Obama says he wants to close the gap between rich and poor. In his State of the Union address Tuesday night, the president proposed refinancing at lower interest rates on some mortgages, forcing colleges to keep tuition down and higher taxes for the wealthy. In the GOP response, Gov. Mitch Daniels says Obama has resorted to "extremism" to divide Americans.

Mr. Obama will promote his agenda to attract more manufacturing to American soil by showcasing the bookends of American industry. He kicks off a three-day tour of crucial election states today, when he will visit a conveyor belt maker in Iowa and an Intel computer plant in Arizona.

Those with sharp ears heard the president say something kind of mysterious while pointing to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta as he entered the House chamber: "Good job tonight. Good job tonight." It turns out President Obama was talking about a secret mission he authorized for special ops forces, who swooped into Somalia on a nighttime helicopter raid to free two hostages. The American woman and Danish man had been kidnapped in October. The daring rescue was conducted by the same Navy SEAL team that killed Osama bin Laden. The commander-in-chief praised their "extraordinary courage."
