Police are investigating the death of a man found shot near a park in northwest Atlanta. Authorities say the victim's body was found Wednesday afternoon in a wooded area along James Jackson Parkway near A.D Williams Park. Latest unemployment figures show metro Atlanta's jobless rate continues on a downward spiral. State labor officials say the jobless rate has dropped to 8 percent.  The rate is down from 8.2 percent in October and 8.9 percent a year ago. Officials say the cause of the decline is due to job growth and fewer layoffs.

Nine people are dead following an intense snow storm that is pounding northern Pennsylvania, upstate New York and inland sections of New England. The Northeast is in for more heavy accumulations today from a powerful winter storm that is expected to drop one to two feet of snow in the affected region.

Former South African leader Nelson Mandela has been released from the hospital. South African government officials confirm the 94-year-old icon was discharged this week and is recovering at home. Mandela had been admitted to a Johannesburg hospital on December 8th with a lung infection and gallstones.
