Church Bishop Indicted in DeKalb; Accolades for the Late Jesse Hill (VIDEO); Twitter Intros Your Tweet Archive

A metro Atlanta megachurch leader is under indictment. A DeKalb County grand jury accuses Bishop Wiley Jackson of the Gospel Tabernacle Church, and his brother Rodney, of violating securities laws. Wiley Jackson is accused of recruiting parishioners to buy shares in a company called Genesis, LLC, which was unregistered, and neither he nor his brother is licensed to sell securities. The district attorney says church members lost thousands of dollars. In a statement, Bishop Jackson said he has done nothing wrong.

Gwinnett County Police probe whether "shoe gaming" factored into Wednesday afternoon's shooting death of a 14-year-old Grayson High School freshman. Paul Sampleton traded high-end shoes through the online forum, "Addicted to All Things Fresh." Police say Sampleton was tied up and shot in the kitchen of his Haynescrest Drive home, right after he had gotten home from school.

Police officers from around the state are expected to attend a funeral today for 24-year-old Clayton County police Officer Sean Callahan, who died after being shot during a gunfight. Cobb County police say a motorcade of police vehicles from across the state will travel to Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta for the 11:00 funeral.

Jesse Hill, Jr., is being eulogized today. The longtime Atlanta businessman and local civil rights leader died this week at the age of 86. Hill was the first black president of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, as well as the first black member of the University System’s Board of Regents. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed called him an “essential leader for the transformation of the city of Atlanta.”

Bells have rung throughout a Connecticut town to commemorate the moment one week ago when a gunman began a shooting rampage at an elementary school. The bell at Trinity Episcopal Church rang 26 times in memory of each life lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The gunman also killed his mother before the massacre, and himself afterward.

Apparently jittery after the Newtown shootings, a Georgia parent got alarmed at a Facebook post of a Crawfod County High School student who promised "a big surprise" the next day at school. Turns out that the 16-year-old was planning to dress up as Santa Claus and hand out candy--but instead, police showed up at his door. Even though police found no wrongdoing, the school actually suspended the boy indefinitely, and plans a disciplinary hearing after the holiday break. His father calls the punishment unfair.

The White House says President Barack Obama is willing to continue bargaining for a bipartisan solution to avert the "fiscal cliff." This, after Speaker John Boehner admits he failed to muster enough votes from his own party for his so-called Plan B to pass Thursday night, and it went down in flames. The plan would've raised taxes on millionaires and on those making $10,000-$20,000 a year. Boehner says he's still open to talks with the president, but he needs Mr. Obama to compromise more.

A senior administration official says President Barack Obama today will nominate Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts to succeed Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Kerry leapt to the front of the short list for the job after U. N. Ambassador Susan Rice withdrew her name from consideration last week. The official announcement is expected this afternoon.

Twitter will offer more than 200 million users a chance to keep a record of every one of their tweets, with an archive. It may take a few weeks before all users have access to it. In 2010, the Library of Congress pledged to preserve every public tweet as a matter of record.

Instagram says it has abandoned wording in its new terms-of-service agreement that sparked outcry from users concerned it meant their photos could appear in advertisements.

President Barack Obama is restricting the inaugural balls to the lowest number in 60 years. There will be just two official parties plus a concert honoring military families. Inaugural planners say it's a reflection of tough economic times and an effort to minimize the burden on law enforcement.

Some travelers may have a tough time getting to their holiday destinations because of the storm in the Midwest. It's dumped more than a foot of snow in some areas and canceled hundreds of flights, mostly in Chicago. A record number of Americans ordered holiday gifts online this year, but that storm could mean that some packages might not make it under the tree in time for Christmas.

The KISS 104 weather forecast: sunny, windy high of 46.
