Bond For Accused Cop Killer?; Actor's Son Shot; Red Box Price Hike

By Veronica Waters

For the first time since 52 protesters were arrested early Wednesday morning in Woodruff Park, Occupy Atlanta has pitched its tents in a new place--National Park Service property behind the Martin Luther King Visitor Center.  An organizer says the spot is appropriate because they "are in the shadows of the civil rights movement."  The Occupiers don't want another run-in with police, so they say they'll be moving around night to night.

An accused cop killer could be released on bond.  Jonathan Bun, the 19-year-old charged with fatally shooting state trooper Rick Daly back in July, is applying for bail under a state law that says defendants may do so if they haven't been indicted within 90 days.  Prosecutors say Bun doesn't deserve to be out on bail and that they'll be moving to indict him within days.

A suspect is facing a long list of felonies, including rape and kidnapping, in connection with this week's vicious attack on a young Cobb County woman.  This morning, Cobb County deputies arrested 21-year-old Darrious Mathis on Greenbriar Parkway.  Police say pounced on the 24-year-old when she left a CVS on the East/West Connector in Austell, and forced her into her car at gunpoint--brutalizing her for two hours, and forcing her to drive to several ATMs.

A young Atlanta man is recovering from two gunshot wounds, inflicted by someone who jacked him for his iPhone.  Gregory Williams was walking into the Darlington in Buckhead on his way to visit a friend, when a young man wearing dreadlocks and a baseball cap approached and demanded the phone.  The pair struggled, and Williams was shot in the side and arm.  His father, actor GregAlan Williams, starred with Denzel Washngton in "Remember the Titans" and "Drop Dead Diva," and is currently starring in USA's "Necessary Roughness."

Miffed Netflix subscribers jumped to Red Box and other competitors after Netflix raised its prices--and now Red Box is about to do the same thing.  Starting Monday, Red Box's day rental prices go up 20%--so a one-dollar movie will now cost $1.20.  Blu-Ray and video game prices stay the same.

Well, that idea went nowhere fast.  Even though a new study by the Georgia Lottery shows putting three video gaming casinos in Atlanta, Savannah and Jekyll Island could generate nearly $1 billion a year in state revenue by 2014, the governor says Republicans will not support casinos in Georgia.  The HOPE scholarship has been cut back for most students because of declining lottery revenue and increased student demand.

President Obama's re-election campaign is doing pretty well cash-wise, raising $70 million in the third quarter--but the AP says in some key Democratic strongholds he's not getting repeat donations and the money is going to Mitt Romney instead.  Still, 80% of Obama 2008 voters say in a Wall Street Journal/NBC poll they'll vote for him again next year.  Herman Cain's campaign raised $3 million this month.

A federal judge in Washington gives final approval to a $1.2 billion government settlement with black farmers, who claim they were unfairly denied loans and other assistance from the USDA over many years.

Conrad Murray's defense is out with an 11th hour disclosure that's going to stretch the case into next week.  The defense says it has a new computer simulation by propofol expert Dr. Paul White that may shed more light on what killed Michael Jackson.

He no quiero Taco Bell.  A dissatisfied Taco Bell customer may be behind the firebombing of a restaurant in Albany, Georgia.  The man called to complain he didn't have enough meat in his chalupa and said he'd be "redecorating" the restaurant.  Hours later, a Molotov cocktail came through the drive-thru window.  Cops are going through caller ID records to track him down.

The KISS 104 weather forecast:  mostly cloudy; 80% chance of afternoon rain, dropping to 60% tonight; highs in the mid- to upper 60s.  Lows tonight 38-43.  Saturday, partly sunny, windy high of 59.  Sunday, a sunny cool high of 62.
