Black Friday gets retailers off to a green start. A record 226 million shoppers spent a record $52 billion, according to preliminary numbers from the National Retail Federation. Today, Cyber Monday, an estimated 50% of American workers will do holiday shopping online. Last year was the biggest Cyber Monday ever, with $1.03 billion in sales, and retail analysts expect the numbers to be at least as big this year.
Now, Atlanta City Councilman Kwanzaa Hall wants folks to bring some of those holiday dollars into midtown, to support small businesses. Store owners point out bills and credit card processing fees can eat up any profits if they don't have enough customers.
Police look for the gunman who shot a man to death outside Cumberland Mall this weekend. Police say the killer chased George Tabetando through the Macy's parking lot and gunned him down. Witnesses described a shooter wearing dreadlocks and riding in a BMW possibly driven by a woman. The motive is also unknown, and police say they're not clear whether the men knew each other.

A 12-year-old boy is recovering at Grady, stabbed in the back with a kitchen knife in northwest Atlanta. Shontavious Terrell and his 13-year-old neighbor was arguing with her brother over a bicycle. Terrell's sister says the older boy stabbed Shontavious several times. Tara Terrell says the boys fight every day--but never anything like this.
The father of a third man who's accusing a Syracuse University assistant coach of abusing him says his son is lying about the accusations. Zach Tomaselli of Lewiston, Maine, faces sexual assault charges himself involving a 14-year-old boy. But after Tomaselli came forward and accused assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine of molesting him in 2002, Syracuse University fired Fine last night.
A Chicago police officer is stabbed to death by her 15-year-old grandson, after she returned home and caught him asleep in his bedroom, skipping school. Keshawn Perkins is charged as an adult with first-degree murder and armed robbery. Police say he stabbed 55-yearold Hester Scott, stole her purse, wrapped her body in a blanket and dumped it in the back yard.
An obese Ohio third-grader who weighed more than 200 pounds was taken from his mother after officials reportedly said she did not do enough to help the boy, who suffered from a weight-related health issue, to lose weight. A trial is set for the boy’s ninth birthday next month to determine whether his mother will regain custody.
