Murdering Mother-In-Law Trial; Michelle Obama Does The Dougie (VIDEO); Does Aaron's Spy On Laptop Users?

By Veronica Waters

  • Opening statements may begin today in the trial of the alleged murdering mother-in-law.  Prosecutors say two years ago, Joanna Hayes put on a fake mustache and wig and shot her daughter-in-law Heather Strube to death in broad daylight, seconds after Strube and her estranged husband--Hayes' son--completed a custody swap of their 18-month-old in the parking lot of a Snellville Target.

  • There's still some internal debate happening, but CIA Director Leon Panetta says a photo of Osama bin Laden's corpse will probably be released as proof of his death.

The White House is releasing new details of the top-secret raid--including the fact that the terrorist was unarmed when he was shot by a Navy SEAL, but that there were "threatening moves," according to Panetta.  Did the 9/11 mastermind speak?  "I don't think he had a lot of time to say anything," Panetta tells PBS NewsHour.

President Obama sits down for his first TV interview since announcing the assassination of Osama bin Laden.  He'll be interviewed today by Steve Kroft for this Sunday's 60 Minutes episode.   The president and first lady were on Oprah Monday--but that was taped the week before.

  • The first lady is putting her moves where her mouth is--and doing the Dougie.  Mrs. Obama is serious about her "Let's Move" campaign to fight childhood obesity, and proved it by dancing with a field full of students at Alice Deal Middle School in Washington, DC to the Beyonce song "Move Your Body," a remake of the tune "Get Me Bodied."

  • In Harlem, Beyonce herself showed up to P. S. 161, surprising and joining in with students dancing in the national simulcast of the choreographed "Let's Move Flash Workout."

  • Atlanta Police believe a string of pawn shop robberies in Georgia and Florida is based in metro Atlanta.  Sgt. Tommie Collins tells Channel 2 Action News the takeover-style crooks are dangerous,  and usually hit at least once a week.  A $10,000 reward is on the table.

  • Georgia Congressman John Lewis will be featured prominently today on Oprah--on the 50th anniversary of the start of the Freedom Rides.  The Freedom Riders traveled by bus to confront segregation in the South.  Lewis was among the Freedom Riders attacked in Rock Hill, South Carolina, for attempting to enter a whites-only waiting room at the bus terminal. The riders continued through Georgia and Alabama, facing firebombs and the Ku Klux Klan.

  • In KISS news about your health:  Is it time to bring salt shakers back to the table?  A study from Belgium shows that healthy people who eat the least amount of sodium don't have any health advantage over those who eat the most.  In fact, they had slightly higher death rates from heart disease.  But before you pick up that shaker--be warned:  the study looked only at healthy white Europeans under age 60 who are slimmer than the average American.  Researchers say these findings may be VERY different for blacks, who are more likely to develop high blood pressure from salt intake.

  • We've heard about carjacking cases where a little kid is in the back of a stolen car.  Now, a Norcross woman is pleading for the return of her grandmother--whose ashes were in the back of her vehicle which someone swiped from a Kroger parking lot.  Ebony Simpson points out she had mail on the front seat of the car, so even if the thief would just drop off the urn using the address on the envelopes, that would be fine with her.  Gwinnett County police say they are looking for Simpson's  2008 black Nissan Altima Coupe with tag BQC 6716.

  • A former Smyrna employee is out on bond, accused of pilfering more than $36,000 from city coffers over a four-year span.  Police say 33-year-old Shavonzail Camp pocketed some of the funds she collected in the permits department, even when she wrote receipts for them.

  • An Ohio man admits shooting his two-year-old daughter in the back of the head with a pellet gun--but he says it was just a game of "Elmer Fudd."  Still, that's not the story he told 911 back in October--when he blamed her four-year-old sister.  Now, 23-year-old Jerram Hicks has told the judge he didn't think the gun was loaded.  But he will serve three years for child endangerment.

  • Are you a fan of the show "Basketball Wives?"  Well, Chris Bosh is not.  The Miami Heat star is suing his baby mama for appearing on the next season of the show.  Bosh claims ex-girlfriend Allison Mathis is intruding on his private life without his permission in her efforts to get rich and become a TV star.  The suit points out the women in the cast are not wives but women who date or have dated NBA ballers.

  • A Wyoming couple sues Atlanta-based Aaron Rents, claiming the company spies on customers through leased laptops. The pair say their local Aaron's showed them a webcam photo of the husband typing on the computer.  They didn't know Aaron's had spyware which logged their keystrokes.  Aaron's says that's not corporate policy, but could have been done by a franchisee.  The company has a kill switch which can shut off rented computers for non-payment.

  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast:  partly sunny, windy and unseasonably cool with a high of 68.
