$30K Weave Theft (VIDEO); Felon: 'I Shot Tupac;' Lawmakers Sue Obama; Olive Oil Cuts Stroke Risk

By Veronica Waters

  • Weave thieves strike again--raking in $30,000 worth of Remy hair extensions in a smash & grab on the southside.  Lucien Poco, owner of the Beauty Master at 3031 Headland Drive SW near Greenbriar, says the crooks made a beeline for the expensive hair.  Surveillance video shows the thieves leaping over the counter, grabbing armloads of $140-a-pack hair under their arms, and running out--all in about 30 seconds.

  • New York Congressman Anthony Weiner has decided to resign.  Reports say Weiner had been waiting to have a face-to-face with his pregnant wife, Huma Abedin, who returned to Washington Wednesday from an African trip with her boss, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, before he made any final decisions.  An announcement is expected today.  When he admitted that he had sexted six women over the past three years, Weiner said that his wife wanted him to stay in office.  Since then, pressure has built for him to step down as naughty photos of him circulated the Internet.

  • An-ex porn star from Georgia says she lied about having sexted Congressman Anthony Weiner because he asked her to do so.  Ginger Lee says Weiner called her June 2, telling her that if neither of them said anything over the weekend, the media attention would peter out.  Now that she's come clean about their racy texts and tweets, the 28-year-old Lee will be dancing at the Pink Pony in Atlanta tonight, getting three times her normal fee.  The stripper adds that she thinks Weiner should resign for lying about his sexting.

  • No one was hurt in Wednesday night's severe weather.  Most property damage seems centered on Cobb and Gwinnett Counties, where falling trees and lightning-sparked fires kept homeowners and first responders hopping.  At the height of the storm, 150,000 Georgia Power customers were without electricity.

  • For Cobb Countians, rail service connecting Cobb with Atlanta would be the top transportation priority if that new SPLOST is passed next year.  That was what a poll found during one of this week's telephone townhall meetings.  The poll found 60% voting for the rail idea; 13% said the Windy Hill/I-75 intersection improvement is more important; and 26% voted neither option.

  • Who shot Tupac Shakur?  A convicted felon claims on AllHipHop.com that he did--two years before Pac was murdered.  The man claims that a big name in hip-hop paid him $2,500 to rob Shakur outside a Manhattan recording studio in 1994.  The man claims he still has a gold chain that was taken in the heist.  New York Police say if the claim appears legit, they will seek to interview the con, who is listed as behind bars in Brooklyn.  "I want to apologize to his family [Tupac Shakur] and for the mistake I did for that sucker [James "Jimmy Henchman" Roseman]," Dexter Isaac told AllHipHop.com from prison.  Jimmy Henchman's lawyer denies the claim that his client was involved.  Isaac says he is clearing his conscience, and coming forward because the statute of limitations has run out on the assault.

  • Congressman John Conyers of Michigan is among 10 House members suing President Obama over taking military action in Libya without authorization from Congress.  They contend the president violated the War Powers Act and they want a judge to suspend the order.  The White House says the level of U. S. military involvement doesn't require congressional authorization.

  • Used car buyer, beware.  Used car dealers may be selling vehicles that have been recalled but not repaired.  A new study from the GAO says that may happen because they don't receive the same recall notifications that franchised dealers get.  Even if they know about the recall, they're not obligated to fix it or tell a prospective buyer.  Experts say checking SafeCar.gov shows a list of recalls per model, but not whether individual cars have been repaired.

  • In KISS news about your health:  Olive oil may reduce your risk of stroke.  This according to a new study out of France.  Researchers followed 7,000 people over age 65 and found that those who ate lots of the oil--cooking with it, using it in salad dressings and dipping bread in it--were a whopping 41% less likely to suffer a stroke.  Doctors say that may not all be from the oil, though; they point out that users of olive oil may also be more likely to eat healthier, exercise more, and earn more than people who don't.
  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast:  sunshine, with a high in the low to mid-90s and an chance of isolated thunderstorms this afternoon.
