Murder Suspect, Victim's Wife Worked Together; Job Ad Is A Scam; Eddie Long, Accusers Wrangle Via Paperwork

By Veronica Waters

  • Was the victim was killed by his wife's boss?  Turns out the accused shooter of a 36-year-old man outside his son's Dunwoody preschool was the engineering supervisor of the victim's wife at GE Energy.  Hemy Neuman, 48, told a judge during his first court appearance that he needs a lawyer.  Police haven't revealed a motive.

  • Scam alert:   An ad promising lots of jobs at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport--from jet refuelers to ticketing agents--is pure fiction.  State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond says do NOT send the DC-based "American Careers" your money.  They take your $35, he says, to hook you up with a job that actually doesn't exist.  The Better Business Bureau reports they have gotten many complaints.

  • A career paramedic returns to the stand today for defense questioning in the preliminary hearing on an involuntary manslaughter charge against Michael Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray. Richard Senneff's testimony yesterday was the latest from a series of witnesses to describe Jackson as lifeless by the time help was summoned. The defense hasn't uncovered any major contradictions so far.   A bodyguard testified that Murray asked in a panic, "Does anyone know CPR?"  He said the question was asked almost as if the cardiologist didn't know how to himself.

  • You've probably seen the YouTube video of the homeless Ohio man with the radio voice.  After booze and drug abuse ruined his life and career, the two-years-sober Ted Williams is getting another chance, thanks to that video posted by a newspaper reporter.  He's been offered an announcer job at the Cleveland Cavaliers' arena, and NFL Films wants to talk to him about a gig, too.  The 53-year-old says he's thanking God.

  • Bishop Eddie Long and the four young men who claim he coerced them into sexual relationships at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church are wrangling in court motions over who will give a sworn deposition first.  Both sides have to agree on a mediator by January 31, or a judge will appoint one. A judge says mediation will begin in mid-February.

  • A DeKalb County police officer is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl.  Quevius Thornton, 29, is charged with  statutory rape and child molestation.  The department says he is "on leave pending termination."

  • Several hundred dead birds have been found in western Kentucky.  Tests performed on the grackles, red wing blackbirds, robins and starlings ruled out diseases or poisons.  There have been similar incidents this month in Arkansas and Louisiana.

  • In KISS news about your kid's health:  a doctor who linked autism to childhood vaccines may have doctored the results of his study--altering data and kids' medical records.  The now widely-discredited research spooked parents nationwide.  Dr. Andrew Wakefield was stripped of his right to practice medicine in the UK, and still denies any fraud.

  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast: early clouds and fog.  Increasing sunshine for the afternoon and a high of 48.
