After a third straight day of solid gains on Wall Street, the stock market has completely erased all the losses suffered since the S&P credit rating downgrade from Friday before last. The Dow closed up 214 points Monday; it's gained 7% over the last three sessions.
Consumers are taking the tough steps to pay their bills even as they increase the amount of debt they carry. Credit card holders are so intent on keeping their accounts in good standing, late payments are now at their lowest level in 17 years. TransUnion reports the average borrower was carrying almost $4,700 in debt from April through June, which was a slight uptick for the quarter.

Democrats say the newly proposed maps would re-segregate the state and take away the political voice of black citizens. Some point out her district is under "academic watch," the 2nd-lowest school rating in that state. Atkinson says graduation rates rose to 84% under her watch; she's in a 14-day window before the hiring is finalized.
An OnStar tracking device led Henry County Police to a car parked in front of a Hampton home. Inside were a three-year-old boy--and the body of his 45-year-old grandmother, Sharon Young. Police say they have tried several times to reach her estranged husband, 38-year-old Preston Young, who may have been the last to see her alive. He is not being called a suspect, but rather a person of interest. Young is believed have family in Akron, Ohio and may be driving a maroon 2004 Dodge Ram pickup with Georgia plates.
