Sine Die! The wrap-up call for Georgia's General Assembly was yelled 22 minutes before midnight as state lawmakers finished the 2011 session. Among the last day's completed bills: a version of Arizona's controversial immigration bill authorizing police to verify the immigration status of certain criminal suspects; an extension of unemployment benefits for thousands of residents for another 20 weeks; a massive tax break bill for Delta Air Lines; and one allowing or making changes to the school boards of Atlanta and DeKalb County.
President Obama talks about the "birthers." The president tells ABC News that while questions about where he was born may be popular for his political foes, he thinks they'll pay for it when the general election arrives. President Obama says that's because most people are confident that he was born where he says he was in Hawaii and are more worried about gasoline prices and unemployment than conspiracy theories or birth certificates. State officials long have certified that Obama was born in Hawaii.
Marijuana on the school bus. Two Gwinnett County siblings are under arrest after a little girl reveals an apparent pot delivery in her backpack. The five-year-old climbed on the bus for La Petite Academy, and the driver commented on the strong smell. The child pulled out 10 tiny baggies of marijuana worth about $200. Gwinnett County Police say the girl said her mother had put it in the backpack. Now, 23-year-old Taneisha Lewis and her 26-year-old brother Earnest Boyd face drug distribution charges.
A nearly six-day search for a missing Bartow County mother of five ends with word that she's safe and sound. Wazineh Suleiman, 30, was located in another part of Georgia but did not want her whereabouts revealed. The sheriff says the case is closed, and no criminal charges are needed.
The historic church where Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached in Atlanta reopens today after a four-year restoration project. Ebenezer Baptist's Historic sanctuary has been renewed to the way it looked when Dr. King was in the pulpit in the 1960s. Two of his children, Martin III and Bernice, mark the reopening with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.
A woman accused of conspiracy in a series of metro Atlanta armored car heists surrenders to police. Desiree Jones, who is pregnant, is the sixth suspect to be charged. In addition to the robbery ring, she faces new charges. Police say during a search of her home, they found a car she reported stolen years ago. Jones is charged with insurance fraud.
A Clarke County woman is under indictment for sending police on a wild goose chase after police shooting suspect Jamie Hood, who was on the run when Vinnie Arwood claimed he was hiding out in a house on Murrell Road. He wasn't; Arwood just had an ongoing beef with the folks who lived there.
A California woman sues Match.com after she says she was raped on a date she set up through the site. The Jane Doe is trying to get an injunction to keep the site from signing up more members until they start screening for sexual predators.
