Bishop Long Accuser Speaks Out; Tyler Perry To The Cub Scout Rescue

By Veronica Waters

One of the four young men accusing Bishop Eddie Long of manipulating him into a sexual relationship talks to a TV reporter; Tyler Perry makes sure a local cub scout troop gets to go camping this fall after all.  Get today's KISS News Now!

  • One of the four young men suing Bishop Eddie Long says he loved the pastor like a father, but that Long exploited his dream for a dad into an exchange for sexual favors.

  • "You finally have a father that you've always wanted for and always dreamed of," said 23-year-old Jamal Parris to Channel 5. "He would just walk away from you if you don't give him what he wants.  So you end up turning into something you never thought you would be, which is now a slave to a man that you love."

Parris tells Fox 5 that Long began his manipulation of him and the other plaintiffs when they were younger teens, and he says their encounters left him in emotional turmoil.

"I cannot get the sound of his voice out of my head and I cannot forget the smell of his cologne and I cannot forget the way he made me cry many nights when I drove in his cars on the way home,'' Parris said. "I'm not able to take enough showers to wipe the smell of him off my body.''

For the third time in a week, Long addressed his New Birth congregation and referred to the allegations against him.  Tuesday night, Long said he would not "speak about individuals," but added, "This is spiritual warfare."  Long said the situation is not about him, but something greater."

"You're not touching me," said Long, as the crowd in the sanctuary cheered.  You're messing with a holy order that God is establishing, and God can handle Eddie Long!"

Long's attorney, Craig Gillen, released this statement:  "Unfortunately the plaintiffs and counsel are attempting to try their lawsuits in the media. The appropriate place to try lawsuits is in the court room. There are rules on how civil litigation is to take place and how counsel should conduct themselves, we intend to follow those rules."

  • Once again, Tyler Perry's humanitarianism saves the day.  Hearing the news that a DeKalb County Cub Scout pack had two trailers full of fall campout gear stolen from a church parking lot, the media mogul donated $10,000 check to the scouts--more than twice the amount needed to replace the stolen items, so the boys can go on their fall campout, after all.

"I can't believe Tyler Perry, he cares for us so much that he would give us that much money," Cub Scout Jackson Bell said after getting the news.

The scoutmaster's donating the extra $6,000 to other troops which have had similar losses.

Last year, when 65 black and Latino children were ousted from a Philadelphia-area swim club, Perry sent all of the kids on an all-expenses-paid trip to Disney World.

Former President Jimmy Carter, his book tour interrupted by an upset stomach, will spend a second night in an Ohio hospital after doctors recommended additional observation. The 85-year-old got sick on a Delta flight to Cleveland Tuesday morning, and stayed overnight at MetroHealth. A hospital spokeswoman says the Nobel Peace Prize winner " is in very good spirits, appreciates all the good wishes being sent his way, and looks forward to getting back to his busy schedule.''

In KISS news about your health: women who exercise regularly cut their risk of endometrial cancer by 20-40%. Excess body fat can lead to higher hormone levels, raising the cancer risk. The research isn't clear on how much exercise lowers the risk, but one study recommends at least 20 minutes of vigrous activity, five days a week.

The Washington state woman who admitted lying when she claimed a stranger threw acid in her face will plead not guilty to theft charges today. 28-year-old Bethany Storro is accused of accepting nearly $28,000 in donations after making up the story, and later said she splashed drain cleaner on her own face.
