Athens-Clarke police think one suspect may be to blame for two attacks involving UGA students. Authorities say two University of Georgia students were abducted and sexual assaulted after they tried to hail, what they thought were taxi cabs. The driver is described as Hispanic looking and medium height in both cases. Even though both attacks took place a year apart, police think there may be a connection because of the similarities. Experts believe there may be even more victims that haven't come forward yet.
A Lawrencenville woman, who was hurt after a para sailing accident in Florida, died over the weekend from her injures. 27-year-old Alejandra White and her fiance Shawn Ladd, were in Clearwater over the Labor Day weekend, when the rope snapped between the para sailing parachute and the boat they were attached to. Amazingly, Ladd survived.
The new foreclosure numbers are out and notices here in Metro-Atlanta are down 24 percent this month, as compared last month. Over 92,000 foreclosures have been advertised in the metro area so far this year, which is five percent higher than last year at this time.
A Dekalb County man is being sued by the county for growing too many vegetables on his own property. Steve Miller of Clarkston is facing close to $5,000 in fines. Miller plans to fight Dekalb officials. Miller says he sells what he grows on his 2-acre property, at local markets and gives some of his vegetables away.
After a deadly gas explosion, residents are returning to their suburban San Francisco neighborhood. Meanwhile, regulators have ordered Pacific Gas and Electric to survey all of its natural gas lines in California. At least 4 people were killed in the blast and about 60 others were injured. Dozens of homes were destroyed. The cause of explosion is still under investigation.
Just as firefighters got a handle on a blaze in the Colorado foothills, a second wildfire has broken out about 35 miles away. This blaze has destroyed at least one home and other structures are being threatened. Many residents in the area are evacuating.
Lady Gaga dominated the MTV Video Music Awards, picking up eight awards including best video of the year, Sunday night. Gaga was wearing a controversial outfit made out of what appeared to be cuts of meat, which was sure to upset PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
When it comes to the drama between Kanye West and Taylor Swift, there appears to be closure. Last year, West interrupted Swift during her acceptance speech, saying her award should have gone to Beyonce. During this year's award show, West mocked his behavior. Swift sang that West isn't as bad a person as he seemed.
Forecasters are keeping a close eye on Hurricane Igor. Even though it's still far out in the Atlantic, there's concern it could strengthen into a monstrous Category 5 storm Monday. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Julia could become a hurricane sometime later this week.
