Teens Arrested For 49 Break-Ins; Lil Wayne Released; Cop Accused Of Raping Pre-Teen Relative

By Veronica Waters

  • Three teenagers are arrested for breaking into 49 vehicles parked at the Sheraton Suites on Cobb Parkway.  Every level of the parking deck had damaged cars on it; one guy said it looked like a tornado had blown through.  The boys, ages 14, 15 and 16, led police on a chase through several counties before they were arrested with a stack of stolen electronics.

  • President Obama is drawing a line on where he's willing to compromise with reinvigorated Republican lawmakers after Tuesday's elections--which he called a "shellacking" for Democrats.  The line is health care. H e says Americans don't want a repeat of the ugly two year battle to pass it, and that there are too many benefits for Americans to roll it back.  But he is signaling a willingness to negotiate on extending Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy, and says two areas where both parties share common ground is on education and energy policy.

  • A Fulton County police officer is charged with raping a 12-year-old relative.  Patrolman Michael Wilson was arrested Tuesday; the girl's mother says she found out from her daughter that the sexual assaults had been going on since May.  The mom says her little girl had begun acting out in school, and that her grades dropped from As to barely passing ones, before she finally revealed to her mother what was being done to her.

  • A pair of raccoons being kept as pets attacked a sleeping baby girl in her family's home on Brook Hollow Way.  Her mother heard the nine-month-old whimpering in her sleep, and Newton County Sheriff's Lt. Tyrone Oliver said the mother was shocked to find the animals in the baby's crib, "pretty much eating the child alive."  The baby is in critical condition with bites to her head and feet; she has to be treated for rabies because even though one animal tested negative, the other couldn't be found.

  • Aimee Michael faces up to 123 years in prison today when a Fulton County judge sentences her for causing last year's deadly crash on Camp Creek Parkway--then fleeing the scene.  Sheila Michael will also be sentenced for helping her daughter hide evidence.

  • Guilty on all counts.  A jury in Decatur convicts former DeKalb County Deputy Derrick Yancey for the 2008 murders of his wife, Linda, and of a day laborer he tried to frame for her shooting.  Yancey faces two life sentences without parole when he's sentenced.

  • Want to earn $31,000 in one hour?  Head to Japan.  Domino's Pizza is celebrating its 25th anniversary there by paying one very part-time, very short-term employee 2.5 million yen for 60 minutes of work.  No experience is necessary; applicants must be over 18.  Domino's says more details about the gig come out November 10.

  • In KISS news about your health:  stress may drive moms to drink.   Working Mother magazine reports new statistics suggest that the number of American women who abuse alcohol has doubled to 40%.  Their reported abuse of prescription drugs has increased by 400% in the past 10 years to 57%.  The survey says the women are stressed over balancing work and home life, and the numbers may actually be bigger because mothers hide their addictions-- since they're worried about the folks who depend on them.

  • Lil Wayne is free.  The rapper's been released after serving eight months behind bars in a gun case.  He's been in solitary confinement in recent weeks, punished for having a digital music player and headphones behind bars.  Now, he's coming out to a hot new album, as "I Am Not a Human Being" hit #1 on the Billboard 200 chart last month while he wsa in solitary.  Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, Jr., also got well-wishes from a former commander-in-chief.   Former President Bill Clinton praised the rapper's abilities during a phone interview with a Pittsburgh radio station Tuesday, adding that "what I hope will happen is that he has a good life now.''  His manager says Lil Wayne is headed for his home in Miami, where they're throwing a party for him Sunday.

  • For the third time in nine years, Delta flight attendants say no to joining a union--but the vote was close, as 51% rejected the proposal.  The union says they will try again.

  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast:  cold morning rain, then the afternoon will have partly to mostly cloudy skies with chilly highs in the mid- to upper 50s.
