The suspect in the Times Square car bomb plot is headed to federal court today. Faisal Shahzad, a Pakistani who is a naturalized American citizen, was caught at JFK Airport on a flight to Dubai that was taxiing away from the gate. Authorities tracked down Shazad after tracing the explosive-filled SUV back to its original owner--a Connecticut woman who'd sold the Nissan Pathfinder on Craigslist for $1,800. The 30-year-old Shahzad's home in Connecticut was searched, and a box of fireworks was among the evidence removed.
"Based on what we know so far, it is clear that this was a terrorist plot aimed at murdering Americans in one of the busiest places in our country,'' said Attorney General Eric Holder.
In Pakistan, intelligence officials said at least one man has been detained in the southern city of Karachi in connection with the Times Square case: a man named Tauseef who was a friend of Shahzad. Shahzad's wife is in Pakistan.
