A high school chorus teacher fired after some students performed a striptease in class takes the stand in his own defense today. Video shows the teen boys taking off their shirts and bumping and grinding with some of the girls. Attorneys for ex-Southwest DeKalb High School teacher Nathan Grigsby say he shut the dancing down when he saw what was happening, but the parent who saw the video online and reported it to the school says Grigsby was enjoying the performance. Some of the teens who came to testify on their former teacher's behalf were charged with indecency when they showed up in court.
Prosecutors say a Christian militia group leader had already identified law enforcement officers near his Michigan home as possible targets. Nine people from the Hutaree group are now in custody, accused of plotting an anti-government uprising. Authorities say they wanted to kill cops and then bomb the officers' funerals.
A Skinhead pleads guilty to plotting to kill then-presidential candidate Barack Obama in 2008. Daniel Cowart of Tennessee faces at least 12 to 18 years. He and a co-defendant, Paul Schlesselman, met online and plotted a multi-state spree in which they would rob people and target blacks for murder, ending with the assassination attempt on Senator Obama in which they would wear all-white tuxedos and top hats while "shooting at him from the windows." Schlesselman will be sentenced next month.
The Republican National Committee acknowledges it shelled out nearly $2,000 to pay for a night at an S&M bondage club in West Hollywood. Now, the GOP is asking the California donor who picked up the tab and sought reimbursement for it for their money back. The RNC insists chairman Michael Steele knew nothing about it. The RNC fired the staffer who helped organize the topless club visit and its submission on an expense report. Voyeur West Hollywood showcases topless dancers wearing horse bridles and other bondage gear while mimicking sex acts.
Steele has been criticized by many donors for the RNC's spending, which includes more than $17,000 on private jet travel and nearly $13,000 for private car and limo services. Luxury hotel tabs range from $6,000 to $15,000. Steele spent some $18,000 redecorating his own offices. The group's mid-winter meeting in Hawaii cost about $43,000, not including airfare, according to the records. Disclosures also indicate that the RNC had more than $22 million when Steele came aboard last year, and is now down to less than $10 million--even though it raised a record-high $96 million during the same time period.
President Barack Obama today signs the the piece of his sweeping health care overhaul that also remakes the student loan system. The fix-it bill also makes the government the primary lender to college students -- removing that role of middleman from the banks and saving the government billions of dollars. With banks no longer getting fees for acting as middleman, the government will put more money toward Pell grants to students.
C-TRAN reaches the end of the line. After tomorrow, Clayton County will no longer have regular bus service. County commissioners voted 4-1 to shut down the transit service because of the cost. This AJC blog lists some of the options which might be available to help some of the approximately 5,000 riders who regularly use the buses.
The Postal Service will cut Saturday mail delivery next year, if Congress approves. The USPS says it could save more than $3 billion in its first full year without it. Express Mail service would continue on the weekend, and most post offices would still keep Saturday hours.
Gwinnett Police seize more than $100,000 in counterfeit merchandise from Discover Mills mall. The raids this month were at the Bags & More and Jewelry Castle stores. Three people have bonded out of jail on charges of counterfeiting and copyright theft.

The 38-year-old is now the father of surrogate twin boys and says since he's writing his memoirs, he felt it was time to share the truth.
A man charged with streaking through a Tennessee supermarket said he did it because he was bored. 22-year-old Daniel Lee was arrested after running up and down the aisle of the IGA store--wearing nothing but a face mask. Cops arrested him in a local Hardees. By then he'd walked in wearing a hoodie and he asked anyone if they could lend him clothes. An employee gave him a pair of athletic shorts.
The Southern Baptist Convention could cut ties with a local church because the co-pastor is female. Reverend Mimi Walker serves alongside her husband at Druid Hills Baptist Church, and the Southern Baptists say that's against their rules. The Convention will take up the issue when it meets in November.
Health officials renew their push for Americans to get swine flu shots because of an uptick in hospital cases in Georgia. No other state has seen such an increase in hospitalizations, and officials say most of the cases involved unvaccinated adults.
It's a familiar rumor--and this time it's in the Wall Street Journal: Apple may be coming out with an iPhone for Verizon Wireless. Sources say it would debut this fall, along with another 4G iPhone that would stay on the AT&T network. Neither Apple nor Verizon will comment.
