If there was a theme for the BET Awards, it could be comebacks and redemption. A comeback performance to open the show by Kanye West; a return to the spotlight by Chris Brown--who sang in a Michael Jackson tribute; even T. I. poked fun at his weapons arrest three years ago on the way to the BET awards in Atlanta. El DeBarge riffed through a series of hits in another comeback appearance.
Prince received the lifetime achievement award, and there was also a segment dedicated to Teddy Pendergrass.
Chris Brown's performance has everyone buzzing. He sang and danced to a medley of King of Pop hits, but when he started singing "Man in the Mirror," he broke down in tears. What do you think about it? Was Brown's emotion staged or legit?
Brown also received a fan award. In accepting it, he told the audience at the Shrine Auditorium: "I let you all down before, but I won't do it again. I promise you.''
The gavel pounds at 12:30 as confirmation hearings begin today on Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan. Republicans are set to grill Kagan on issues from guns to abortion; Democrats have more than enough votes to confirm her. The head of the Judiciary Committee, Senator Patrick Leahy, tells CBS Republicans would try to block any nominee put up by President Obama, saying, "If he had nominated Moses the Lawgiver, some would have said, 'We can't have him because, among other things, he hasn't produced a birth certificate." If the 50-year-old Kagan is confirmed, it would be the first time the nation's highest court has had three women on its bench at once.

Wondering when it'll be too late to have a baby? Scientists have come up with a simple blood test which can tell women as young as 20 when they'll hit menopause and they say it's accurate within four months. The research is being presented this week at a fertility conference in Rome. A test kit could go on sale within three years.

Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia, the longest-serving senator in history, has died. The West Virginia Democrat's office said the 92-year-old lawmaker had been in the hospital since late last week. He went in for heat exhaustion and dehydration, but serious complications developed.
Know that joke, "Doctor, it hurts when I do my arm like this" and the doctor says, "Then don't do your arm like that?" Same story at Apple these days, as the new iPhone 4's edges now have a stainless steel band around it which acts as the phone's antenna. Users are complaining that when they grip their phone, the signal starts failing; so Apple says don't hold the phone around the small black lines on the metal band. An Apple spokeswoman says in general, though, dropped calls are "a fact of life.''
A good Samaritan rescues a Snellville woman from her burning home--which she didn't even know was on fire. The homeowner ignored the knocks on her door at first; she was watching TV and says she wasn't expecting anyone. But the neighbor was persistent, going to the front and back doors, and she finally answered. The house on Ashlyn Rebecca Drive is a total loss...along with two of her cars.
