The Atlanta City Council is expected to approve a payment of 20-thousand-dollars to settle a lawsuit brought by a woman who says she was jailed for asking a police officer "why" she was being asked to move from a public sidewalk while she was talking to a friend. 62-year-old Minnie Carey spent close to 10 hours in jail for questioning the officer. Officer Brandy Dolson has already been suspended without pay for an unrelated incident.
It was a sad Father's Day for one Gwinnett County family when a four-year-old girl lost her life while swimming with her dad in the pool at the Durant at Sugarloaf Apartments in Lawrenceville. Police believe it was an accidental drowning. This is the second time in less than a week that a Gwinnett County child has drowned in an apartment complex swimming pool. Last week, a 7-year-old boy died while swimming in Suwanee.
A teenager is shot during a Father's Day BBQ at a home in Fulton County. The 14-year-old boy is at the hospital in stable condition. A 27-year-old man has been taken into custody and is facing aggravated and child cruelty charges. The relationship between the victim and suspect is unclear.
A Coweta County woman is accused of drinking and driving, killing an intern in Governor Sonny Perdue's office. 26-year-old Christa Scott will make her first court appearance Monday. Scott is accused of running a red light Saturday morning and slamming her vehicle into a car driven by 24-year-old Jordan Griner, an intern at the Governor's office.
Joran van der Sloot has retracted his confession in the killing of a young woman in Peru, according to a Dutch newspaper. De Telegraaf claims the 22-year-old says he only signed papers admitting killing Stephany Flores because he was intimidated during interrogation. Van der Sloot is the primary suspect in the May 30 killing in a Lima hotel. Several times Sloot has given and retracted admissions of his involvement in Natalee Holloway's disappearance in Aruba.
A Father's Day banner flying over Pebble Beach yesterday wasn't a welcome sight for Tiger Woods. The banner that was attached to a small plane flying overhead said "TIGER: ARE YOU MY DADDY?". It was flown over the course as Tiger was playing the third hole, according to WaggleRoom.com. This comes after the newest rumors about Woods being the father of his mistress Devon James's 9-year-old son.
