Accused Cop Killer Identified; Should Teachers Get Report Cards; Crook Leaves A Thank-You

By Veronica Waters

  • A 30-year-old Atlanta man with a long rap sheet has added a murder charge to his criminal resume.  Gregory Favors is accused of shooting state trooper Chadwick LeCroy Monday night as the officer approached his wrecked Mazda, following a car chase that had been prompted by a traffic stop for a broken taillight.  A state patrol spokesman says LeCroy never even drew his weapon.  Favors' record includes 19 arrests for charges including threatening police and eluding arrest.  Some of his mugshots are pictured here.

  • An Army wife says Delta lost her German Shepherd while trying to ship the family pet to their new station at a base outside Frankfurt, Germany.  The airline says Alisa Miller's dog Nala got out of its cage during a connecting flight changeover at Hartsfield-Jackson, and ran off.  Delta will reimburse Miller's trip to Atlanta, award her a round trip business elite ticket, and is offering a $1,000 reward for safe return of the dog--which has been seen near the airport.

  • Kids get report cards; should teachers get them, too?  House Majority Whip Edward Lindsey tells the AJC he knows teachers wouldn't like the idea, but he's considering introducing a measure under the Gold Dome authorizing report cards for public school teachers.  He worries because 50% of low-income students who enter 9th grade don't graduate high school.

  • What do the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, jazz, and the first black woman elected to Congress have in common?  They're all being featured on U. S. postage stamps next year.  Congresswoman Barbara Jordan of Texas, actor Gregory Peck, actress Helen Hayes and characters from Disney Pixar are among the honorees; other events include the centennial of President Ronald Reagan's birth and the 50th anniversary of America's first manned spaceflight. Beginning next month, all USPS will have the "Forever" designation on them--and can always be used to mail first-class letters, no matter what future price changes occur.

  • Should A. J. Green go pro?  The Georgia Bulldogs receiver says he will sit down with his family after Friday's Liberty Bowl to discuss whether he should enter the NFL draft.  Green, a junior, was UGA's leading receiver this season--despite being suspended the first four games of the season for selling a bowl jersey to an agent.

  • The story of Michael Vick's comeback now includes a trip to Hawaii.  He's been selected as a starter for the NFC in the January 30 Pro Bowl.

  • No word yet on what funeral arrangements are being made for Teena Marie. The "Ivory Queen of Soul" died this past Sunday in Pasadena, California. She was 54.

  • A crook who left behind a holiday greeting.  Athens-Clarke County Police say a thief apparently smashed into an Athens home, ransacked the place and left a calling card of sorts.  An officer on patrol noticed the house's broken window and investigated; officers found notes left on two beds reading, "thank you merry christmas.''  So far, no word on what might have been stolen from the house, because the family is away on vacation.

  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast:  sunny, highs in the upper 40s.
