A Fulton County Sheriff's deputy working off-duty security at Saturday's Braves game is caught on video punching a drunk guy in the head. He went off when the man and his buddy tried taking pictures of themselves while sitting on the cop's motorcycle. The video's on YouTube and slows the unidentified officer handcuffing the apologetic man and threatening to Tase him. Sheriff Ted Jackson's opened an internal investigation.
A MARTA para-transit bus driver is caught with his pants down. The unnamed driver has been suspended for three days without pay after he was taped standing on the bus and urinating into the middle of the street. MARTA says drivers have scheduled breaks and if the man needed another one, he should've notified dispatch he had to make a pit stop.
Georgia lawmakers move a step closer to outlaw texting while driving. The bill should go to the House floor this week, then to a conference committee to resolve differences with the Senate's version. Fines could range from $100 to $300. The bill honors a North Georgia college freshman who died instantly when he drifted into another traffic lane while while texting and driving.
For the first time in 14 years, Americans are getting a new $100 bill. The Fed unveils the new C-note today, with new security features designed to thwart high-tech counterfeiters. It's going to be a few months before it really gets into circulation, to give companies time to recalibrate their machines-- like automatic payment kiosks at self-checkout counters--so they can recognize the new bills. The new $100 bill goes into circulation February 10, 2011. New technology includes a blue 3-D security ribbon and a color-changing bell which change whenever the money is moved, as well as a gold 100 on the money.
President Barack Obama's upcoming Supreme Court nominee is the subject of White House meetings today, as he will meet with Senate leaders and top members of the Judiciary Committee from both parties to talk about the confirmation process and listen to any suggestions they may have. Ten students at a Florida middle school had to be taken to the hospital after trying to get high on cough medicine. The 13- and 14-year-old girls and boys were all carried out on stretchers Tuesday, dizzy and disoriented. They had all taken Coricidin, which is sold over the counter. On the street the pills' nicknames include "Skittles" and "Red Devils," and the kids use excessive amounts of them to hallucinate.
