A delivery driver shot bringing Chinese takeout to a DeKalb County apartment is in critical condition this morning. Police say the shooter approached the woman's car and knocked on the window when she pulled into the Highland Run East complex, not far from the Magic Wok. When she rolled down her window, she was shot once--but managed to drive back to the Wok, and was taken to Grady.
A nationwide crackdown on child prostitution gets results in Atlanta. FBI officials say in just one weekend, they rescued 35 children in a series of raids--two of them from Atlanta. Authorities say the youngest victim was just 10 years old. The FBI also arrested six pimps and 25 adult prostitutes.
Two Northwest Airlines pilots who overshot their Minneapolis landing by 150 miles last week could lose their jobs. The pilots have told investigators they were caught up on their laptops looking at Delta scheduling software, and weren't monitoring the plane or messages from air traffic until a flight attendant asked them when they were going to land. Delta says they violated company policy, but the FAA says there are no regs against using laptops in the cockpit as long as the plane is at least 10,000 feet up.
The Atlanta mayoral election is a week from today, and the main concern for frontrunner Mary Norwood is trying to win without a runoff. A poll has her at 41% of the vote. Insider Advantage pollster Matt Towery says if she wins, she'll be the first white Atlanta mayor since Sam Massell. His poll has Kasim Reed second, followed by Lisa Borders.
A man charged in a racial beating wants out of jail. A bond hearing is set for this morning for 47-year-old Troy West of Poulan, accused of beating up an Army reservist outside of a Clayton County Cracker Barrel while screaming racial slurs. Troy West has been jailed since being indicted on felony charges in the September attack on Tasha Hill. Eyewitnesses say he hit and kicked her on the ground after she asked him to "be careful" when he almost hit her seven-year-old daughter with the door at the Morrow restaurant.

Meusi McGowan was on trial in San Diego for home invasion when he came to court with a plastic bag filled with his own feces. He asked for a mistrial on the grounds that the jury had seen him in shackles, and when the judge denied it, he smeared some of the bag's contents on his lawyer and threw the rest at the jury. The judge sentenced him to 31 years.
An Illinois man could go to prison for six years for cashing more than $470,000 in paychecks from a company he never worked for. He'd been hired in 2002, but changed his mind about taking the job--yet the company never took his name off the payroll. Auditors at Avaya discovered the mistake five years later--but by then Anthony Armatys had raked in nearly half a million dollars.

Atlanta Shriners are dealing with the big loss of their mini-cars. Thieves broke into a storage facility for the Nabbar Temple, stealing seven of the nine miniature cars valued at $2,000 apiece. The Shriners often ride them in parades and special events.
