Kia Supplier Hiring; Chris Brown Booked; Ex-Falcon Jailed On Drug Charges

By Veronica Waters

(Monday, 9 February 2009)  A major Kia supplier is filling 600 jobs; singer Chris Brown is being investigated for possible domestic violence charges; a former Falcons running back is facing felony drug charges.  Get the latest on today's KISS News Now!

  • Job applicants began lining up in Lagrange before dawn this morning, where the Sewon America plant will be hiring 600 workers.  Sewon is a major supplier to the Kia plant being built in West Point.  Anyone interested can submit an application starting at 8:00 at the Georgia Quick Start office in Lagrange.

  • Ex-Atlanta Falcons All-Pro running back Jamal Anderson faces a judge on drug charges today.  Atlanta Police allege the 36-year-old and a 20-year-old, Mark Hudson, were spotted by an off-duty cop in the bathroom at Peachtree Tavern in Buckhead, snorting lines of cocaine off of a toilet tank.  Anderson, now an ESPN analyst, also allegedly had a joint in his pocket.

  • Chris Brown is out on $50,000 bail on a charge of making criminal threats, and is being investigated on suspicion of domestic violence.  The 19-year-old's charges stem from an alleged assault on a woman whom a source tells the LA Times was his girlfriend, Rihanna.  A Los Angeles police report does not give the victim's name and the department says that is typical of domestic violence cases.

A witness says the two argued in a rented Lamborghini and things escalated when they jumped out.  The woman reportedly had "visible injuries," but authorities did not describe them.  Police responded after a 911 call in which a female claimed that Brown had attacked her, and Brown was arrested just minutes before the Grammys were to start when he turned himself in to police.  Brown had already left the scene before police arrived.

"The exact charge was criminal threats, and it is going to be investigated as a criminal threats investigation," said Police Sgt. Bridget Pickett.  "There may be domestic violence charges added later, but that will be up to the district attorney's office."

Brown was described as "professional" during his booking; Rihanna's publicist later said she was "well" and thanked questioners for their concern.  Representatives for the two otherwise did not answer any questions about the allegations.

Both Brown and Rihanna canceled the night's scheduled Grammy performances.  The Recording Academy president says when they got word that the two were not performing, they quickly decided to put Al Green and Justin Timberlake onstage.

  • Rapper Lil Wayne has won his first four Grammys, including one for best rap album.  Jennifer Hudson also took home her first Grammy.  She won for best R&B album--and thanked her "family in heaven."  Several with Georgia ties came away Grammy winners, including T. I., country group Sugarland and Jennifer Nettles.

  • President Barack Obama takes his economic stimulus case to the people in a pair of town hall meetings today and tomorrow in Indiana and Florida--two states hard-hit by the economic downturn and foreclosure crisis.  He takes questions from reporters at the White House tonight.  The stimulus plan is now nearly 800 pages long and worth $800 billion.

  • The pilot and crew who landed a US Airways plane in the Hudson River last month will receive the keys to the city of New York today.

  • The grandmother of the California octuplets is blasting her daughter for getting pregnant over and over again.  Angela Suleman calls 33-year-old Nadya "unconscionable," and says the younger woman is neither doing nor providing anything to help while she takes care of her six older children.  Unemployed mom Nadya insists she won't take government welfare.

  • The KISS 104.1 weather forecast:  cloudy skies today through Wednesday and highs near 70 each day.  Wednesday, also look for a 50% chance of rain showers.
