(Friday, 10 April 2009) A babysitter is accused of an infant's murder; Kanye West says this week's South Park episode "humbled" him; a New York church will play out the Passion of the Christ play on Twitter today, Good Friday. The latest is on today's KISS News Now!
A Lawrenceville woman facing battery charges for beating her 15-year-old daughter in January...is now accused of murdering a 2-month-old baby in her care. Latasha Malone, 35, says she awoke from a nap to find the baby boy not breathing--but police say the infant had a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain. They think she hit and shook the baby.
A Forsyth County woman accused of torching her house and making it look like retaliation for her support of candidate Barack Obama has been hospitalized for a possible drug overdose. Pamela Graf was found after a weeklong search after she'd ditched the GPS monitor on her ankle. She'd been facing drug and arson charges. Graf and her boyfriend are accused of burning her house in January--when she claimed she was on the way to President Obama's inauguration. Police allege the pair did it for the insurance money.
You probably knew this, but just in case--don't fall for that e-mail going around which offers you tickets to something called "Oprah's millionaire show" if you buy a plane ticket and provide all sorts of personal info. The FBI--and Oprah's company Harpo--say it's all a scam.
President Barack Obama gets an update on the economy today amid signs the U.S. recession is abating. He's urging Americans to refinance, if they can, with mortgage rates at a record-low--and he's warning people to watch out for scam artists looking for money upfront. It's a message you might see if you're out at the movies this week. The feds bought some anti-foreclosure scam theater ads because they say too many people were paying to get information that's free on the government's website, federalreserve.gov.
The president is also promising to give veterans an electronic, 21st-century record system to ease delays in health care. More than 33,000 military personnel have been injured in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and there's a six-month backlog of claims at the VA.
Kanye West is thinking of checking his ego. After being skewered on this week's episode of South Park as an egomaniacal "gay fish," Ye says his self-important attitude may have outlived its usefulness. West said on his blog he used to use the crazy ego to build his self-esteem when nobody believed in him--but now that he's a success, he types (the all-caps is how he types in his blog), "I JUST WANT TO BE A DOPER PERSON WHICH STARTS WITH ME NOT ALWAYS TELLING PEOPLE HOW DOPE I THINK I AM." Check out more of Ye's post here: Kanye's Blog
Here's an interesting Tweet to tell you about this Good Friday: A Trinity Wall Street church in New York City will give you the passion of the Christ--on Twitter. It starts at noon today, and the main characters will tweet the Passion play for three hours--of course, in 140 characters or less. Their Twitter can also be delivered to cell phones or e-mail addresses: http://twitter.com/twspassionplay />
Michael Vick's still in Virginia--now at a medium security prison. He's served most of his 23-month dogfighting sentence and is due to be released on house arrest within weeks.
Florida's Attorney General is suing a company that makes a dog chew toy that looks like Michael Vick. The suit claims Showbiz Promotions reneged on a promise to donate the toy's profits to animal shelters. The company's also accused of promising proceeds from a Caylee Anthony doll to the Nat'l Center for Missing and Exploited Children--but so far only ten dollars has been donated in the name of the murdered toddler.
The KISS 104.1 weather forecast: a breezy high of 70 today; scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, low 51. Saturday, partly cloudy, breezy 67. Easter Sunday, increasing clouds, a 50% chance of night showers, high of 70.
