(Tuesday, 16 December 2008)  Beauty shop bootleg sellers may have taken a hit as the feds seize a quarter-million dollars worth of counterfeit goods; a 12-year-old boy was tortured and tied in a closet, and his jailer mom and her husband are under arrest; a major security flaw could get Internet Explorer users' passwords stolen. • Federal agents raiding four storage areas around metro Atlanta seize some 13,000 fake handbags, sneakers and clothes with labels including Coach, Gucci and Nike. A Customs spokeswoman says the phony goods market heats up around Christmas.  They found $250,000 worth of counterfeit merchandise; so far, no arrests have been made.
  
   
• A 12-year-old Oconee County boy's parents are jailed on child abuse charges, after the boy's little brother tipped off a teacher.  Sheriff Scott Berry says the boy had scars all over his body; the child was handcuffed in a closet, and tortured with a pellet gun and with pepper spray from the jail where his mom, Damita Peak, worked.
  
  "One of the reasons he was punished, he said, was because he took a can of corn for something to eat," says Berry.
  
  Stepfather Norris Walker is also behind bars.
  
   
• If your default browser is Internet Explorer--watch out!  There's a security flaw which could allow you to get jacked online.  It goes to work when you log on to infected websites.  Hackers have put the malicious code on 10,000 legit websites.  So far it's mostly stolen video gaming passwords, but experts say financial crooks can't be far behind.  Microsoft says you should use a different browser until they release a patch.
  
   
• One of Brian Nichols' jurors is speaking out about what happened in their jury room--saying the three holdout jurors never even considered giving the courthouse killer the death penalty.  Tijuana Wade tells the Atlanta Journal Constitution the trio--two women and a man--were hung up on the fact that if they voted for the death penalty, they would be taking someone's life.  Wade says they told the rest of the panel, "We have to sleep with ourselves," and the women, in particular, cited Nichols' bad childhood, as well as saying that the reason he didn't show remorse may have been because he is mentally ill.
  
  
• MARTA's budget is $60 million in the red; the transit agency says fare hikes and even parking fees could be ahead for next year.
  
  
• A 9-year-old Texas girl wrote to Santa Claus saying all she wanted for Christmas was for a male relative to stop touching her and her sister.  Her school counselor contacted police, who arrested the man.  They think the abuse went on for four years.
  
  
• Charles Barkley is calling out his alma mater.  He says Auburn didn't hire Turner Gill as football coach because Gill is black. Gill led Buffalo to a championship this season and inherited a program that was 10-69 before he took over in 2006; new Auburn coach Gene Chizik comes in as a defensive coach after going 5-19 in two seasons as a head coach at Iowa State.
