• Gas prices haven't been this low since March of 2004; regular unleaded averages $1.61 in metro Atlanta--even lower than the national average of $1.75.
  
  
• Congressional aides are drafting a package to give about $15 billion to struggling Detroit automakers--money that could be taken back if an overseer says their bounceback plans are no good.
  
  
• The US Supreme Court could decide as early as today whether to hear a couple of lawsuits challenging President-elect Obama's citizenship.  Even though Hawaii officials vouched for his birth certificate months ago, some of his detractors still believe it's a phony.  They contend he was born out of the country and therefore, is not qualified to be president.
  
   
• Closing arguments begin this morning in the Brian Nichols trial, as his jury will be tasked with whether to give him life in prison or lethal injection.  The jury has heard from 144 witnesses over 11 weeks.
  
  
• OJ Simpson's lawyers say they'll appeal his sentence of up to 33 years in prison for a Las Vegas armed robbery of a memorabilia dealer. It appears the 61-year-old would have to serve at least 9 years before being eligible for parole.
  
  

• Death Row Records founder Suge Knight appears to be off the hook in a drug and battery case out of Las Vegas.  A judge dismissed the charges he was caught beating his girl in a parking lot, while holding a knife and carrying ecstasy--but prosecutors indicate they may try taking the case to a grand jury.
