Breast Cancer Awareness

Posted: 6:53 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011

Thinking has changed on breast cancer and soy foods

Until recently, women with breast cancer were advised to avoid soy. But studies in the just past few years have shown that soy may actually be an important boost to the health of women who've had breast cancer.

A 2009 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded, "Among women with breast cancer, soy food consumption was significantly associated with decreased risk of death and recurrence."

In a guest blog on the health and nutrition website crazylife.com, nutritionist Jacki Glew has very specific advice about how soy can help women who have been treated for breast cancer.

Of course, women who have had breast cancer should always follow their doctor's advice, even if it is contradictory to the publications cited here.
