Not "Grandma" but "Grandpa Bandit"

By Condace Pressley

Atlanta, GA —

Talk about flipping the script.

The so called "Grandma Bandit" turns out to be a he!

While it is unclear if the grandmotherly look was a disguise or if Roxanne Taylor was a cross-dresser, one thing was clear following the autopsy.  The suspect wanted for three Rite Aid and one CVS robbery was a man named Roxanne.

DeKalb Police spokeswoman Mekka Parrish told News/Talk WSB late Friday authorities discovered Roxanne Taylor was a man.

His brief criminal career came to a violent end Friday morning on North Druid Hills Road following a chase north on I85 by Atlanta Police.

Taylor was a regular at the drive through of the Wendy's Restaurant on Piedmont Road in Atlanta.  When two workers there recognized Taylor from the CrimeStoppers reports on televison, they called police who gave chase.

Taylor fired a shot.  Police returned fire and Taylor died at the scene in his gold Jeep Liberty.

"We believe that that individual did fire one shot," says DeKalb Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish.  "Those APD officers did return fire."

It's not known whether Taylor committed suicide or was killed by police.

Police warrants for Taylor indicated he was wanted for four drug store robberies from which a total of $441 dollars was stolen.
