Fundraisers, Art Exhibits, Museums | Sights
On February 23rd, the renowned artist Gilbert Young will kick off the first of three events celebrating his 50th year in the arts. The first reception will be held at the Carrie Steele Pitts Home for Children in the Life Learning Center.
Young is most widely known for a work of art created 34 years ago called "He Ain't Heavy" showing a man reaching down for another man's hand. The event will include an exhibition of important works and artist talk. Proceeds from art sales will benefit the non-profit organization which is celebrating its own anniversary. The Carrie Steel Pitts Home is 125 years old this year and is the oldest institution of its kind, founded by a former slave, in the United States. The Home is located at 667 Fairburn Rd., Atlanta, 30331. The reception and exhibition is from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the public is invited.
